Great post Jamie - and thanks for the plug. :)

I believe the tipping is getting closer and closer with all the social media tools. While people usually start with something close to home (commenting on friends pictures or Facebook accounts), it makes us all get more comfortable over time putting ourselves out there in a virtual way.

For me, I had this feeling of not wanting to come across as having a big ego when I decided to start blogging (after all anyone can read it) and well, the benefits have been so great for me professionally and personally that I'm now surprised I had those fears.

I was just offered a side gig to write for a Windows focused magazine - which helps me and my company at the same time. Cool!

People across all levels in a company have to consider squeezing some type of extracurricular web activity into their routine... it's a little nerve-wracking at first, but now it's fun.

People don't have to emulate anyone else's writing style or try to be someone they are not - they should just consider what they might contribute, make a little plan of attack (or focus area), and then go for it.
